Reglar Wiglar
Picking the easy targets since 1993

Reglar Wiglar #1 (1993)
The Cadillac of Music Magazines

With a nod to WKRP in Cincinnati for the tag line, the innagrual issue of RW was published in December of 1993 and quickly dissappeared from record stores around Chicago. Comprised of fictitious interviews and the occassional fake record and movie review this relic is out of print forever. Features include "interviews" with MotherScratcher and the first appearance of the Woodrows as well as the debut of the Reglar Wiglar's notorious "One Word Record Reviews". Also, co-founder Tom Zielger turns in his treatise on How to be a Smart-Ass in four easy lessons. Cover: "Angus" by Chris Auman.

Reglar Wiglar #2 (1993)
Anything can happen, and it probably just did

In true Mad Magazine style the cover of RW #2 sought to parody the buzz bands and buzz words that the local and national media seemed to be obsessed with at the time. "There is no interview with Liz Phair, nor are there any articles on Urge Overkill, or for that matter Smashing Pumpkins and we only briefly refer to Wicker Park. We also tried to avoid using labels like Grunge Fashion, Alternative Music and Generation X." However, there are interviews with New Jersey metal-heads Insynuator and Rockford, IL's great white rapping hope, White Bred & Honky MC, as well as an informative essay by Tom Ziegler on Save the Planet. Reglar Wiglar #3 (1994)
Anything can happen, and it probably just did

This issue marks the jump to the newsprint ghetto, and an increase in the print run meant there were more copies of the magazine for stores to throw away! Tom Z turns in an amusing essay on Zima (remember that zhit?), we ask the question, "Who's Your Favorite Rock Star?", Annie Baldwell makes her first appearance as well as rrriot girls, The Vag Girls and the literarly supplement, "Rain Drops" edited by Jayne Wayne and featuring the poetry of C.F. Buchanan. It's lovely. Cover: Chris Auman

Reglar Wiglar #4 (1994)
Anything can happen, and it probably just did

Three issues in one year! That would be a feat never to be repeated. Yep, that's an actual copy of the Reglar Wiglar against the backdrop of the Eifel Tower, thanks to contributor Clyde Wayne Steele III whose European vacation also included shots of the Wiglar lying next to Jim Morrison's grave. Sacre bleu! This issue continued in the "Spinal Tap meets Mad Magazine" vein with "interviews" with Hip Hop Honkys; White Bred & Honky M.C. and yes, a reprint on the MotherScratcher interview from RW #1 (flog that horse!). Reglar Wiglar #5 (1995)
Serving Chicago Since 1993

The fifth issue in two years! Someone was inspired. Issue five of RW continued in the tradition of parody interviews with an interview and a tribute to The Woodrows. Tom Ziegler returns with the hilarious "Psychologically Unfit" piece concerning the profiles companies use to screen prospective employees. That dillapidated building in the background was actually RW HQ's in 1994 and the wall in front (tagged by "Poker") is the Western Avenue overpass just north of Belmont where the famous Western Avenue CD toss took place. The billboard was Q101's disengenous ad campaign "This is not for you" where the shittiest radio station in town sought to capitalize on the "Alternative" craze sweeping the nation. Cover photo: Max "Shudder" DeZutter.

Reglar Wiglar #6 (1995)

Reglar Wiglar #8 (1997)
Home of the Frozen Pizza since 1993

The Wiglar bulks up a bit jumping to 40 pages. More, more, more Woodrows! Who could get enough? Cover is a drawing by me, Chris Auman, of tiny little buildings, although some people have mistaken them for graves. Same thing right? "Scientifically-Derived Marketing Strategies" by Mike Dixon, "Making the Least of Your Time" by Tom Ziegler, "Topeka" fiction by Chris Auman and "Ain't Got No Job, Ain't Got No Money, Ain't Got No Teefus!" by Clyde Wayne Steele III plus movie "reviews". What a gas! Cover: Chris Auman

Reglar Wiglar #9 (1997)
Just as sure as Zamfir is the Master of the Pan Flute

Reglar Wiglar #10 (1998)
Too much information since 1993

Last of the newsprint covers. This issue features hilarious "interviews" with the ska band, Skatastrophe, woman in rock, Annie Baldwell, and the return of White Bred & Honky MC. Also a disgusting essay by stand-up comic, Matt Champagne titled Weeds the Dope Dog. And then the record reviews and the zine plugs. Cover photo: Max "Shudder" DeZutter

Reglar Wiglar #11 (1998)
Using every part of the buffalo since 1993

Targeting the suckers! The Reglar Wiglar gets a face lift in stunning red and white; the first in a series of covers by Chris Auman. Bastige Von Curr gives us another I Hate Your Band, I Hate Your Zine and of course the usual music and even movie reviews round out the issue. Cover: Chris Auman

Reglar Wiglar #12 (1999)
Worth the paper it's printed on since 1993

An early interview with the polka sensation, The Polkaholics, a reprint of Tom Ziegler's hilarious Psychologically Unfit, a Van Halen live review by Travis Fickle, slightly longer than ridiculously short fiction, record reviews and plenty of funny, funny stuff. Cover: Chris Auman

Cover: Michael Bowman

Reglar Wiglar #16 (2001)
Asking the question, 'What's up with girlfriend's hair?' since 1993

The fifth construction paper cover ended with this four color cover! Gol dang was that expensive! Looks great though. The snake's eyes and tongue had to be drawn individually on every cover with a marker otherwise that would have pushed the cost through the roof. Comics artist Peter Bagge, garage rock monsters Electric Frankenstein and Kansas City's Pillows are all grilled by the Reglar Wiglar interviewers. Tom Ziegler returns with "New York Diary" and a reprint from an issue of the Urban Hermitt adds a little variety to the usual batch of record and zine reviews. And comics too! Cover: Chris Auman

Parting your hair since 1993

This one line totem pole drawing by Mike Dixon was originally commissioned by RoosterCow Records for the Reagan National Crash Diet side of the RNCD/Decibators split 7" but lost out another of Dixon's drawings. The Woodrows also make a comeback for the umpteenth time in the pages of the Wiglar. Hilarious new "interviews" with rap sensations, Enenen and 'Lil Dirty Bastard. Also, restaurant reviews!
