RC009 THE CLERICS Magnae Quassationes CD

This eight song CD by Chicago's reclusive Clerics, might just be the great lost record of the beginning part of the twenty-first century! If you took all the great (and not so great) bands the member of the Clerics have been in over the years, and laid them end to end, they'd reach to Milwaukee! Magnae Quassationes (that's Latin for Great Shakes) was recorded by Scott Ramsayer at Two Rooms Studios in Chicago in June of 2005. After fermenting for over a year in the overdub & mixing process, this soon-to-be classic batch of guitar-laden rock is now available for public consumption. $7.

A few positive reviews of the new Clerics disc, for your reading pleasure:

"Describing the Chicago Sound is difficult, but hearing The Clerics leaves zero doubt that they are a band from these parts. This quartet, which has just released the irresistible "Magnae Quassationes" (Roostercow), has an approach that fits that weird Chicago post-rock sound, which is the aural equivalent of visiting a very familiar room after someone has moved all the furniture six inches to the right. It's all there, but something is just a bit off."--Kevin Williams, Chicago Tribune

"The Clerics find some nice moments on "Magnae Quassationes," the band's debut record, eight quick songs of jangly guitar spewing and sensitive vocal drawl. The intriguing piece of The Clerics puzzle--that's missing, oddly--is that there is no bassist, just three guitars, vocals, drums. Some added sounds in studio, of course, but the essential lineup includes no bassist. And they pull it off, and without the angular and darting musical complexity of a Sleater-Kinney."--Tom Lynch, New City

RC007 REAGAN NATIONAL CRASH DIET Sucktastic! CD

We'll let Punk Planet say it, 'cause they really hit the nail: "The much needed CD reissue of the already classic double 7" inch from this wacky, sloppy Chicago-area band with dual male/female vocals. It sounds like what a Plan-It X band doing garage rock would sound like: totally wild. Includes three bonus tracks, two of which were recorded at the Fireside Bowl." $5.
